5 Tips for Digital Marketing Success

Five Tips for Digital Marketing Success

It’s truly a jungle out here in the digital marketing world. Whether you are new to it, or have been around for a while, there are certain ways to ensure your success. After starting my career at Dealer Product Services (DPS) several months ago, I compiled some tips for digital marketing success.

In 2011, I graduated from Northern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in business marketing and a certification in interactive media.  After exploring various positions in sales, management and customer service, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in digital marketing that would utilize my education, talents and unique creativity. So, I created my resume, did my research and eventually found the perfect opportunity with DPS. I learned my first tip for digital marketing success before I ever even entered the industry; patience, persistence and hard work will always pay off.

Transitioning from the world of retail and sales, DPS’ Digital Media Group was, at first, a jungle of unfamiliarity. This brings me to my second bit of advice: learn everything you can about your organization, its clients and how all the pieces work together. During my first two weeks of training I spent time with each and every department, meeting the people, learning what they do and why they’re important to DPS as a whole. This provided me greater understanding of what differentiates DPS, where the company has been and its direction for the future.

My third tip is a point that I can’t stress enough, because it’s the only way to learn, gain mastery and truly thrive in digital marketing. Ask many questions and do a lot of research! Your colleagues are a wealth of information that can significantly increase your progress, and the internet is your best friend that offers a limitless amount of information, answers, tools and tricks of the trade. Work smarter, not harder – use all of the resources available to your advantage and life will be good.

Ensure quality! This is my fourth tip for digital marketing success. Content and data are kings of this field, and they better be presented perfectly if you want to succeed. Double check everything you do and have your team proofread your work as well. With many accounts, there is a lot of testing, a lot of optimization, a lot of budget tracking, a lot of reporting, and generally a lot of work.  Planning, prioritizing and working as a team not only saves a lot of time, but also optimizes accounts and provides clients with the best services possible.

Finally, my fifth tip is to continually learn and adjust. Digital marketing is getting bigger with every day and, as a company, DPS must always stay ahead of rapid changes.  With everything from search engine algorithm updates and increasing popularity of mobile devices to dynamic social media platforms and applications, we must not look at the transforming landscape as a roadblock, but as a stepping stone and an opportunity.

Working at DPS has been an amazing couple of months during which I learned to navigate quickly through the digital marketing jungle. While this fast-paced, ever-changing field may not be for everyone, I sincerely believe that you can achieve digital marketing success if you follow the tips I have outlined.

Thanks Josh…good stuff. If I may add a bit to your 2nd point. Businesses may benefit from recognizing that an internal employee/s may have limitations. Perhaps they have too many duties or simply a lack of knowledge when it comes to the ever changing landscape of digital marketing. Bringing in the professionals to help with digital marketing can be a tough pill to swallow for some, but success in the digital world is often times aligned with the expertise of the people you have managing it for you.So I guess my tip is…know when you need help.
